Our Fiji kava is of the highest quality and is noble kava that grows for at least five years before harvesting. We offer A-grade waka roots, which are 100% lateral roots.

Basal Root and Lateral Root

Kava can be divided into 2 main categories:

  1. Basal Root
  2. Lateral Root

Basal Root

This part of the root is the stump of the root where it is known to be lower in kavalactones, but enjoyed for daytime ceremonies because the kavain content is higher. It is also higher in starch.

Lateral Roots

These are the finer dendrite-like roots that grow from the stump. These roots search for water and absorb nutrients from the soil. These test out higher in overall kavalactone levels but have a lower kavain level per root weight. It has a more distinct and pronounced taste and a stronger aroma.

The Ratios

Our kava powders are divided into 4 categories:

  1. 100% Lateral Root
  2. 100% Basal Root
  3. 30% Lateral root - 70% Basal Root Blend
  4. 50% Lateral root - 50% Basal Root Blend

100% Lateral Root

Higher in overall kavalactones and more popular at night.

100% Basal Root

Higher in Kavain and more popular in the day-time.

30% Lateral root - 70% Basal Root Blend

This is near the naturally occurring weight ratios of the whole root growing in nature. A naturally balanced weight and is often served in kava bars.

50% Lateral root - 50% Lateral Root Blend

This is a well-balanced blend that we see growing in popularity for those who are looking for a versatile kava blend that is popular, both, day and night. It is higher in kavalactones than the 30%-70% blends.
